Great news! AKC has just announced starting Jan 15th, the AKC STAR puppy award will now be a title you can have added to your dog's registered name! The AKC STAR puppy is a 6 week course (meeting once a week) for puppies 12 weeks to 1 year provided they have all their puppy shots for safety. You do not have to have a puppy registered with AKC to participate in this amazing opportunity to do more with your puppy, but you will need one (which you can message me regarding how to obtain one for an adopted dog/mixed breed) if you wish to have the title recorded and receive the official title and certificate from AKC.
This is a great starting point to provide socialization in a structured environment as well as start to introduce key elements for the puppy to work towards their CGC and up.
This course/test uses food, clickers, and praise throughout to help shape wanted behaviors around distractions of other puppies and people and also help puppies get used to being relaxed and handled by others.
I would LOVE to host a Star Puppy course but would need at least 3 interested as that is the minimum to provide accurate distractions and socialization. Price of this course will be $150 and includes at the end (if passed) an AKC Star Puppy Ribbon, custom certificate, and paperwork to submit to AKC if you wish to add the title to your pup's registered name and receive their official certificate. There will also be a little graduation hat for photos to remember this accomplishment with!
